COTTEN'S COUNTRY NOW AVAILABLE - June 19, 2014

I am delighted to introduce you to my new work for winds, "Cotten's Country." In the tradition of bringing popular music to the concert hall through the voice of the composer like Gershwin and his "Rhapsody in Blue," my "Cotten's Country" is inspired by westerns and country swing from the 40s and 50s. Focused on the late Cotten Wright Clark, Jr.'s life, the work features the trumpet and his love of dance hall music made popular by groups like Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys and the Sons of the Pioneers. Traditional cowboy songs are woven into the fabric of my work, including two American fiddle tunes - "Cotten Eyed Joe" and "Chicken in the Barnyard," along with two prominent cowboy songs - "Cowboy Jack" and "Streets of Laredo."

Directors can now purchase complete sets and 11x17 scores from distributors including JW Pepper, Penders, and RBC. "Cotten's Country" will be in the next GIA Teaching Music through Performance in Band book (Vol. 10).
